Healthy Rock Star

There are so many staff members making amazing changes and choices in their lives, and APS likes to recognize them! Each month, staff members can send nomination letters to the Staff Wellness Committee for employees to be recognized as the Healthy Rock Star for the month.

If you would like to nominate a staff member for this honor, please complete the nomination form

November 2017 Healthy Rock Star is:

                   Marie Hannon from Elkhart Elementary

From her nominator: Marie has been eating healthier and working out regularly. You can see that she looks and feels better because of all her efforts. She is inspiriting others and asks others to join in with her workouts weekly.

Marie answered some questions for us!

What does being healthy mean to you?

To me, being healthy is both physical and emotional, striving for a balance between my job/exercise/food choices and person/fun with family and friends, making progress without expecting perfection.

What motivates you to try to be healthier?

I am working on improving my health in all areas of my life. Eat, move, sleep but also spirit (mindfulness, meditation, journaling), money (setting a budget with an end date when I will be debt-free, except for mortgage), and environment (sell, donate, or trash to lighten up home and classroom).

What have been the biggest changes you’ve seen personally since trying to be healthier?

Since becoming healthier, I feel more confident and happy, better able to handle life’s stressors, and find more joy in daily activities.

What would you say to someone who doesn’t thing they are ready to make a change?

My advice would be to start small and go slow. I began more than two years ago with just two simple goals that had nothing to do with diet and exercise (starting each morning at home with a cup of hot tea and keeping my mug at work filled with water) and stuck with them until they became a habit. I found the book, Small Move, Big Change: Using Microresolutions to Transform Your Life, by Caroline L. Arnold, to be very helpful.

Congratulations Marie!
